Program areas at Utah Health and Human Rights Project

Our mission is to promote the Health and well-being of the world's torture survivors. The overall goal of our program is to help survivors and their families overcome the severe, pervasive, and long-lasting effects of torture and achieve sustained physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being. Our program is guided by profound respect for the dignity and resiliency of our clients. In fy23, uhhr served 394 clients. Those we served originated from 45 countries and ranged in age from 6 to 88 years old. Uhhr's trauma-informed services are culturally sensitive, delivered a no cost, provided in the client's preferred language, and include: individual, couple, and family psychotherapy; group therapy support, and education; intensive case management; medical assessment, advocacy, and referral; interpretation; on-site psychiatric care; pharmacological and medical case management; legal referral for torture survivors seeking asylum; comprehensive client assessments and evaluation; outreach and consultation to physicians, educators, and social workers who encounter torture survivors in their practices.
