EVENTS PROGRAM Ice Climbing Festival This event encourages learning and improving the outdoor recreation of ice climbing In addition to classes for all levels we have special classes for youth women and adaptive Free gear use for youth and low income Fee waivers for youth and low income Distribute educational materials This event is also an important boost to the local businesses Served 210 people Fat Bike Bash This event has several activities that encourage family building including a free Friday evening ride and a 5 mile non-competition ride with fee waived on Saturday. Additionally youth under 18 are half-price for race events. Served 68 people. Safety and education materials for all ages are given out at all events.
TRAILS PROGRAM We are currently rebuilding Gold Beach Trail and Gold Creek Trail. We actively engage community members of all ages as volunteers on trails. We have produced and are adding to a Field Guide that focuses on traditional Native uses of the plants along the trail. We created a brochure about Health Benefits of Trails. We purchase and distribute trail and outdoor recreation education materials at all outreach booths all year.
PARKS PROGRAM We manage Worthington Glacier State Recreation Site Blueberry Lake Campgrounds and Shoup Bay Cabins. All these parks are owned by the State of Alaska but the state was going to close them because they are remote and difficult and expensive to maintain. 17,700 people served. Hosts are trained with an educational script and information to share with guests and safety and education materials are given out and or posted at all locations.
