Vic provided approximately 300,000 meals, ,monday-friday, at congregate dining centers through within four multipurpose senior centers across the Valley in diverse communities, including 19 satellite sites, a home delivered meal program, and a seperate meals-on wheels program with no restriction of age or income. 1,000-1,500 seniors are tserved daily by the four community centers, sites and meals on wheels program. A hot nutritious lunch and activities attract seniors to the centers for important socialization needed to offset growing national epidemic of isolation and loneliness and depression it produces. Recent reserach is showing depression is the most impactful determinate in decline of one's health.
The Valley Intercommunity Council (vic) is a well established 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has served Valley communities since 1964. Working with the city of los angeles, other partners and stakeholders, vic provides critical social services including meals and an array of health and wellness activities to raise the quality of life and well-being of older adults, 60 years or older. Those of low-income, the frail and elderly, and those temporalily disabled or chronically ill, are the focus of vic programs and services.vic provided over 40,000 rides to elogible seniors through its transportation services program. Centers have 5 vehicles each that transport senior to the facility for meals and activities every monday-friday. The vehicles also transport seniors to regular doctor appointments and when a senior is released from the hospital.
