Patient-centered research is a touchstone for all that we do. We work with leading researchers To prepare, support, and retain patients in a variety of patient-centered studies and trials. This includes partnerships with leading trials such as best-cli, and world-class universities such as umichigan and duke. We also work directly with underserved communities, such as chinese-americans, To build greater capacity To engage in research. We are The fiscal sponsor for The american limb preservation society, an interdisciplinary group promoting amputation prevention. Furthermore, we are a leader in advancing awareness and incentives for patient-centric research, including through our grantmaking within our Vascular health impact network, and through The wylie scholar program, which provides 1-year career development grants To outstanding young Vascular surgeon-scientists who combine active patient care with academic research. The award supports crucial research that enables them To compete for future research funding. Wylie scholars become north america's world-class Vascular surgeon-scientists; many are now chiefs at major academic centers, prominent leaders in The field, and play a key role in our programs. Since 1996, we've supported 24 surgeon-scientists at 15 institutions around The country who are transforming patient care. The average return on investment for follow-on research funding is 30:1.
We catalyze patient-centric, collaborative convenings and projects in order To Advance treatments and Cures across The spectrum of Vascular disease. We focus on bringing patients To The table as equal decision-makers, in addition To galvanizing partnerships and projects that require our trusted, neutral leadership, via The Vascular health impact network and its annual convening, The innovation summit. We also stimulate and steward large research projects through our collaborative patient-centered research grants, which require partnership between stakeholders and an emphasis on patient leadership and involvement.
Education and community awareness programs are The building blocks for patient empowerment. We build awareness of The risks, symptoms, outcomes, and new treatments for Vascular disease, helping To ensure that patients with Vascular disease and their families are equipped with The knowledge To engage in shared decision-making about their health care. Our efforts are multilingual, free, and are speficially targeted towards underserved populations such as black, asian, and hispanic americans. Our focus on prevention and our goal To make resources accessible To vulnerable populations and communities means that every year, more than 200,000 individuals around The world visit our website To learn about Vascular disease and connect To critical resources.
The Vascular health impact network (vhin) supports novel collaborations and advances high-impact projects through national multi-stakeholder innovation summits and patient-centered research grants. It is a first-of-its kind forum for leaders in Vascular care and research To collaboratively address pressing patient needs, align shared interests and leverage The expertise of this uniquely diverse community.
