The emergency aid program provides financial and emotional help to individuals and families throughout Vermont who face an unexpected crisis or worry about how they are going to meet their most basic needs. The clients served are the employed, the unemployed, the underemployed, and retirees. Federal and state assistance programs tied to the covid-19 pandemic have been eliminated while costs of rent, electricity, fuel, and food continue to rise. These factors have heightened the needs of the population we serve and have brought new families to us for help. In addition, vcci provides limited financial support to newly released inmates to help them have a chance at a new start. Assistance might include: grocery cards, back rent or security deposits, and outstanding utility or fuel bills for those facing shut offs. Vcci also offers case management to clients where they learn how to navigate through systems and community resources. The goal is to empower clients through education, advocacy, and networking to improve their ability to be self-sufficient. Vcci's emergency aid program served 1,831 individuals throughout vermont.for over 28 years, vcci has provided financial help to individuals and families during the holiday season through the advent appeal. In december 2022, 956 individuals received food cards, gift cards, fuel/utility assistance, or help with back rent.
