Program areas at Veteran's Place of Washington Boulevard
The veterans Place transitional housing program (funding through the va) has been operating for 25 years. This program provides transitional housing services for up to 48 homeless veterans through three different program models: low demand, service intensive and bridgehousing. The transitional housing is located within 13 townhouses located on Washington Boulevard. Each veteran can be accommodated in the program for up to 24 months. Services provided in addition to transitional housing include case management, employment and educational services, recovery support, financial management, transportation assistance, clothing, and on-site food pantry. Veteran is assisted with developing and achieving individualized goal plans based on their needs and goals. The veterans are able to achieve self-sufficiency and return to being productive members of their communities.
The homeless veterans reintegration program (hvrp) is an employment-focused competitive grant program of the department of labor employment and training services (dol-vets). This is the only federal grant to focus exclusively on competitive employment for homeless veterans. Veterans Place serves veterans in seven counties; allegheny, armstrong, beaver, butler, fayette, westmoreland, and Washington county. Through indivdualized goal setting with an employment case manager, each veteran is able to be matched with an employer that matches their wants and needs. By partnering with hundreds of employers across the region, our employment case managers are able to find competitive employment opportunities for the homeless veterans within the program. In 2022 our workforce development programs successfully placed 100 veterans into sustainable employment positions.
The veterans resource center is one of only fifteen of its kind in the country and the only drop-in service center for veterans in the western Pennsylvania region. The veterans resource center services veterans facing homelessness or at risk of homelessness providing them with essential resources such as transportation, food, clothing, laundry facilities, shower facilities, financial assistance, and individualized case management. Veterans are immediately linked with resources for housing. Over 800 veterans were served in 2022.
