VFW Department of South Dakota fosters camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts and serves veterans, the military, and communities. In summer, it hosts approximately 145 teams and over 2,000 players in the VFW baseball program statewide where each tournament game requires a recitation of the pledge of allegiances and the VFW baseball sportsmanship code by players.

Program areas at VFW Department of South Dakota

Operations are to oversee various district offices and posts. The state VFW sponsors activities and passes funds to the federal organization.
Each summer approximately 195 teams and over 2,250 players will participate in the VFW baseball program state wide. Each tournament game is required to have the pledge of allegiances and the VFW baseball sportsmanship code recited by the players before the game starts. The purpose of this program is to create fellowship, leadership, and teamwork among the youth of South Dakota.
