Office operations, insurance, and legal fees needed to provide assistance to FCCLA members and chapters across Virginia as requested or as needed to maintain the organization. It may include sending state officers and/or advisers to work with members and teachers in schools across the state. This assistance is for implementing and strengthening the VA FCCLA organization as an integral part of Family and Consumer Sciences instruction in high schools and middle schools in Virginia.
Virginia FCCLA has two governing / planning bodies. The State Executive Council (SEC) is comprised of up to nine secondary students who serve as state officers and their Family and Consumer Sciences teachers, who serve as chapter advisers. The SEC plans and implements leadership training and educational experiences for students and teachers at both state and regional levels. The Board of Directors (BOD) is the governing body in terms of policies, procedures, financial management, and programing decisions. Certain members of the SEC serve on the BOD for continuity. The SEC meets approximately 10 times each year for planning and conducting leadership events for the student members of FCCLA and their teachers. The BOD meets annually in-person and virtually as needed. These meetings and planning sessions are essential to carry out the mission of VA FCCLA.
