Program areas at Vote Smart
Research:vote Smart devotes considerable effort collecting and keeping factual records on all elected officials and candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial and state legislative office, and issues. This includes voting records, public comments, interest group ratings, biographical and contact information, campaign finances and issue positions. Voters, citizens, schools and journalists thus have access to unbiased information on candidates as well as those serving in elected positions. This research is done by hundreds of full-time interns and multigenerational volunteers which are managed by our young, committed staff.
Information delivery (outreach):once information is thoroughly researched and substantiated, Vote Smart provides its information free of charge to all citizens. This is done directly through a comprehensive website, a toll-free voter's research hotline and publications or indirectly through our partnerships with media, libraries and other nonprofit organizations.
