Program areas at Waco Theater Center

Our education program, the angels and warriors mentorship program provides wrap-around services to facilitate personal development and growth for young people from 8th grade through college. We empower participants to identify their dreams, and through mentorship, gain the clarity,discipline, and skill to achieve those dreams. The program curriculum includes off site field trips and workshops with guest artists to foster skill development and awareness of the arts and future careers. In association with richard lawson studios, we presented the 3rd annual films for teens by teens film festival in fiscal year 2023.
Providing opportunities for over 157 artists in fy23, with over 32,500 audience members attending the events, our presenting programs included: 1)black terror, a co-production in partnership with newark symphony hall and yendor theatre company; 2)dr. marus norris and the south side symphony orchestra, an artist-in- residence series presented friidom's black hmer; 3)plan a: black women on the rise film festival, an annual showcase of short films by black women, in partnership with mpact events; 4)a co-production in partnership with the flea Theater of a world premiere of hang time by pulitzer prize finalist zora howard; 5)witness a visual art experience, co-curated by tina knowles and genel ambrose; 6)the world premiere of marty and the hands that could by josh wilder and directed by larry powell, in partnership with watts village Theater company; 7)the window a new play by natasha ofili; 8)the second residency of our season was choreographer jade solomon curtis's keeper of sadness.
