Program areas at Washington Park Citizens Association

The Washington Park community center, a multipurpose human service agency, offers a variety of programs and social services to the local community. Our licensed childcare programs include infant/toddler daycare, pre-school, and before & after school programs. These are year round programs, providing a nurturing and educational environment for children who need care while their parents are at work. Our before & after school program serves children 5 to 12 after school each day, as well as programs and summer camps to cover the gaps when school is out, so children are safe and monitored always. We provide assistance with homework, as well as reading and math tutorials. Youth are expected to excel at school. Though emphasis is on academics, a variety of group and individual activities are offered.
The daycare program was opened in 1981 as the first licensed infant and toddler child care center in rhode island. The program is open full time, monday - friday. Children are cared for in groupings according to age: infants under 18 months, toddlers 18 months to 3 years, and preschoolers 3 to 5 years. Our curriculum is based on the eight domains of the rhode island early learning standards and designed to ensure each child (age appropriate) that leaves us is kindergarten ready. Each child is assessed during the year in the areas of social, emotional, cognitive, and fine and gross motor skills. A log is kept on each infant to keep parents abreast of their day and as a communication aid. Our child care program meets all state regulations.
