Program areas at Washington's National Park Fund
Mount rainier National Park funding: in total, 12 projects were supported by funds raised by wnpf. These included the (1) volunteer program, which recruits over 2,400 participants to complete critical Park projects, such as trail restoration, that otherwise would not happen; (2) meadow rovers, who educate Park visitors about treating the fragile meadows with care; (3) emergency roadside assistance, also known as the superheroes of vacation roadside mishaps; (4) access for all where Park staff evalute trail accessibilty and create digital trails guide; (5) alpine garden protection team; (6) new benches for the paradise area to accomodate visitors; (7) wta trail crews; (8) beginning the work to rehab the slate comfort station in paradise; (9) funding to hire bilingual rangers to better serve visitors from diverse backgrounds; (10) creating a skiing history of mount rainier exhibit; (11) meadow restoration; and, (12) making repairs to the wonderland trail. Funding was also provided to tribal representatives to compensate them for their time while training Park staff.
North cascades National Park funding: funds were used to Fund 12 projects at north cascades National Park including: (1) the food sustainability project; (2) cascade butterfly project to document the impact of climate change;(3) tracking and documenting rare carnivoresl; (4) bear education for visitors; (5) funding for interns stationed in the backcountry; (6) wildlife forensics laboratory analyses to inform Park stewardship and management activities; (7) search and rescue trainings;(8) digitization of old photographs to document wilderness impacts and revegetation efforts; (9) training for first responders; (10) a trailer for volunteers to carry equipment to work sites; (11) funding to purchase produce carts for Park partner, the sauk-suiattle tribe; and, (12) a gis-based mapping tool. Funding was also used to compensate tribal leaders for their time and travel expenses while training Park staff.
Olympic National Park funding: funds were used to support 14 projects at olympic National Park including: (1) engaging tribal youth in co-development of native conservation corps program; (2) makah youth cultural monitoring to ensure archeological sites are documented and protected; (3) middle school science program; (4) funding hire staff to process the backlog of archives; (5) aviation training for rangers; (6) night sky interpretation; (7) native plant nursery; (8) adventures in your big backyard where the Park partners with the local boys and girls clubs to facilitate recreational experiences for the youth participants; (9) elk monitoring using wildlife cameras; (10) upper elwha river restoration; (11) wilderness volunteer program; (12) providing housing for interns from diverse backgrounds; (13) terminus glacier art exhibit; and, (14) research efforts to track glaciers that are melting. Funding was also provided to purchase a camera for the hurrican ridge area after the fire abd operate the kalaloch ranger station.
