Program areas at Watts Gang Task Force Council
One Watts / CalVIP (same as last year) A three-year initiative funded by the State of California Violence Intervention and Prevention grant. The goal of this initiative is to reduce gang violence in the Watts area of Los Angeles by 10% over a 3-year period. This is achieved by steering those who are gang-involved, formerly gang-involved or in danger of becoming gang-involved into educational programs, long-term employment, job training, and peace strategy discussions. Provision of supportive services to help stabilize enrollees is also a part of this program.
One Watts Critical Mass / Council District 15: REINVESTMENT OF POLICE FUNDS The One Watts Critical Mass project built upon the established community outreach of the California Violence Intervention and Prevention initiative by: ?providing daily Peace Ambassador outreach to an additional 500 or more residents for each of the six (6) months term of the grant ?promoting community development and job training and job placement ?facilitating the transition back to a more open community, post the COVID lockdown protocols, including returning to work, schools and other public spaces ?promoting public safety through violence mitigation and mediation
