Program areas at We All Rise African American Resource Center
Direct services: the direct services We provide are culturally specific, trauma-sensitive, and equity-centered including support groups, mental health services, help with obtaining housing and benefits, safety planning, and advocacy for other community Resource referrals. All activities are conducted by directors and advocates trained in facilitation, advocacy, and mental health support. Moreover, numerous people make frequent use of our clothing and incidental closet, youth Center, job Center, and education/financial services (e.g., ged classes, rent smart course, financial literacy/black business classes). These services are provided both during and outside of normal business hours to meet the population's emotional, psychological, and physical needs as they arise. This includes responding to clients' individual needs within spaces in which they are comfortable including homes, local hospitals, police stations, and other community agencies. Our agency has nearly 2,700 clients. Last year alone, our agency served 1,029 including 393 new clients. During that period, staff provided 8,187 referrals to other services, 4,077 referrals to victim service programs, 14,772 accounts of individual advocacy, 2,074 interventions, 6,466 sessions of counseling, and 3,694 interactions with support groups.
O youth services: first and foremost youth services include the black youth alliance - wi (bya-wi), which is our culturally specific after-school program designed to increase protective factors for black youth/families including such as: increasing cultural awareness, improving attitudes about gender, improving beliefs about healthy relationships, increasing one's willingness to explore sexual identities, increasing leadership skills, improving their family support/connectedness, and increasing school climate. In addition, We have been awarded a grant to offer evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention programming that focuses on improving parent-child communication and increasing adolescent health awareness. Lastly, We have a youth Center which is open monday through friday. Over the last year, our focus for the Center has been youth mental health and first aid responses. Other opportunities for young people include: an empowering environment where youth can see others that resemble themselves on the walls, in literature as well as learn about their history, tutoring, virtual learning support, mentoring field trips, leadership training and more.
