Westerly Area Rest Meals provides a continuum of care and service to the homeless and needy by offering affordable housing, supportive services, and helps build self-esteem towards independence. The Warm Center was invited to apply as fiscal agent for the Washington County Basic Needs Network for a grant from Rhode Island Foundation worth $50,000. The shelter program acquired Welcome House of South County's emergency shelter; housed 172 individuals during this fiscal year with a total of 7,870 bed nights. Out of those individuals, 41 exited to a positive outcome.

Program areas at Westerly Area Rest Meals

Shelter program - warm acquired welcome house of south county's emergency shelter in 2022. The emergency shelter programs (for single individuals) housed 179 individuals during this fiscal year for a total of 11,988 bed nights. Of those individuals, 31 exited to a permanent housing destination, 106 exited to a temporary destination , and 13 exited to other destinations. An additional 63 individuals were assisted through with emergency winter overflow shelter.
Community outreach - the community critical needs program assisted 449 (including 207 children) maintain housing through case management and financial assistance to support basic needs. These expenses include prescription medicine, utilities, transportation costs, and rent. These "small" unexpected expenses add up and put can put unstable, single-income homes at risk for homelessness.
Harvest homes - in fiscal year 2023, the harvest homes program provided housing for 10 homeless families consisting of 15 adults and 22 children. Without the resources of harvest homes, these families and individuals may have been homeless and in shelter. Of those families that exited the program, 8 families exited to a positive housing destination and 2 families exited to a temporary housing destination.
