Program areas at WestMass ElderCare
Elder services: home care services are tailored to meet individualneeds of eligible elders 60+, and most are coordinated throughprovider agencies. Among those services are individual caremanagement, personal care assistance, meal preparation, laundry,housekeeping, companions, respite for caregivers, moneymanagement, coordination of care and nursing home screenings.ombudsman program provides a way for nursing and rest homeresidents to have their complaints addressed; and also providesinformation about nursing and rest homes. Trained volunteerombudsmen, certified by the executive office of elder affairs,visit nursing and rest homes on a regular basis.
Nutrition program: elder nutrition program provideswell-balanced, hot noon meals for elders 60+ (and their spouses),monday-friday, at congregate mealsites or delivered to theirhomes. Congregate mealsites provide opportunities for socialinteraction, nutrition education and volunteer activities, and arelocated within the community. Hot meals are delivered to frail,homebound elders by trained delivery staff, who may help tocommunicate the elder's need for additional assistance.
Personal/foster care program: adult family care provides a fosterhome for older adults, persons with physical and mentaldisabilities, and aids. Afc provides professional nursing andsocial work support. Caregivers and participants are matched onthe basis of common interest, location, and the specific needs ofthe participant. Group adult foster care is a medical programthat provides daily personal care services to adults withimpairments, who live in managed housing complexes. Personal caremanagement, provided through masshealth's pca program, providesassessment, evaluation and skills training for eligible consumerswho wish to self-direct their own care, as the employer of theirpersonal care attendants.
