Westport South Beach Historical Society

Since 1984 with a consistent history of growth in service to its mission the Westport South Beach Historical Society has developed exhibits and education around the Westport Maritime Museum Destruction Island Lens and Grays Harbor Lighthouse. Housed on the original Grays Harbor Coast Guard Station the museum along with its Coast guard heritage remains the heart of Westport. In its ongoing mission the society is a key element in local tourism and education and in continuing its outreach in 2023 hosted 9,524 visitors from 48 states and 15 countries. While based in a small economically depressed community the society has 110 supporting members who along with friends of the society donated over 4,954 volunteer hours operating the Westport Maritime Museum Destruction Island Lens hall and Grays Harbor Lighthouse along with providing education and service events. The society is currently in the restoration process of the Grays Harbor Lighthouse this iconic building is the lighthouse in Washington state and the third tallest on the Pacific Coast of the United States.
