Program areas at Wheels to Africa
Wheels to Africa distributes bicycles to various rural and needy organizations in America and Africa. The bicycles change lives and provide economic, educational and lifestyle avenues to alleviate proverty.
Bands for Bikes is an annual event held in conjunction with the McLean Community Center to collect bikes and celebrate with music from youth bands. Six youth bands performed for a large crowe with other youth collected bicycles for Wheels to Africa. The annual event is organized by a local youth and his friends in conjunction with Wheels to Africa. The event creates an opportunity for youth of all cultures to engage in a community project that enable youth across the world to enhance their lives.
Wheels to Africa had over 275 volunteers who collected 733 bicycles for rural and low income communities. Wheels to Africa is an all volunteer organization that provides educational and leadership building opportunities to volunteers of all ages. At the bicycles collections, youth process the bicycles for shipping to other countries and load the bicycles in containers for storage or shipment.
