Program areas at Widowed Persons Association of California Inc- Sacramento Chapter 1
Activities for members including dances, outing to the theatre, day trips to surrounding area attractions, holiday parties, and other events are organized for the purpose of introducing Widowed Persons to new friends and helping to connect Widowed Persons with similar interests. These events are the primary method used to provide therapy for the Widowed person through the social interaction with others that have experienced loss. Social events are scheduled to assist in the transition from bereavement to social activities. Smaller events such as bowling, golf, card games, and dances occur weekly, and there are three major events year at halloween, christmas and st. patrick's day.
Monthly luncheons provide the Widowed Persons Association of California, inc. an opportunity to reach out to new members, announce upcoming events, handle organizational business, and make members aware of the available services offered. The luncheons are the first introduction to the organization to many newly Widowed Persons and offer a great venue for getting to know some members in a non-threatening environment.
Recovery programs are provided to help Widowed Persons throughout California cope with the loss of a spouse or a loved one and encourage Widowed people to live full lives following the death of a spouse or loved one. Widowed Persons Association of California, inc. offers the following recovery programs; counselling is available by member request on an ongoing basis; grief support groups are held every sunday throughout the year for members; and members learn how to cope and address common issues at grief workshops four times per year and grief discussion groups that are ongoing with regular training programs for facilitators.
