MIJs 2022 program accomplishments include successful administrative and policy advocacy ensuring economic security, food security, and health care justice for low income Arizonans statewide, initiation of a federal administrative civil rights complaint regarding the City of Mesas administration of federal rental assistance program waiting list reapplication processes, and delivery of statewide justice advocacy training on the national civil right to counsel movement, automated harm vested upon economically vulnerable Arizonans by artificial intelligence, ethics in legal aid practice, updates on new Arizona laws. MIJ continued critical dialogues with Arizona State Government officials on the administration of public benefits and entitlements programs and services, as well as planning for the eventual end to the ongoing, federally declared Public Health Emergency caused by the COVID19 pandemic. All of MIJs program activities broadly serve low income Arizonans, communities of color, immigrants and now Americans living in Arizona, and vulnerable Arizona youth, among other populations experiencing disproportionate harm arising out of the COVID19 pandemic and their life circumstances, affecting their access to economic security, food and nutrition, health care, housing, the courts and government systems. and due process in the administration of public programs and services.
