Program areas at Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Texas
The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Texas continued to educate Texas legislators, staff, media, press and the general public about the reality and facts of alcoholic beverages in order to promote responsibility and awareness of alcohol products in Texas. Most texans do not realize that "one glass of Wine (5.5 oz) - one regular beer (12 oz) - one mixed drink (1.5 oz liquor) - each contains the same amount of alcohol." The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Texas has made this message a continuing educational effort to make people aware of the alcohol content of Wine, beer and liquor.
The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Texas continue to work with our national association, Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of america, on educating the Texas public, elected officials, capitol staff members and interns about the dangers related to fake or tainted alcohol in the Texas marketplace. The three-tier Texas alcohol system (manufacturers, distributors and retailers) each have an independent responsibility for making sure that domestic and imported alcohol beverage products are from known, respected, reliable and safe origins. Deaths related to fake or tainted alcohol have posed a serious threat in other countries. The members of the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Texas realize their responsibility for distributing safe alcohol beverage products to the citizens of Texas. The Texas public at large must also be smart consumers in the purchase of all alcohol beverage products. Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Texas members will continue to be vigilant and make it a priority in guarding against the introduction of fake or tainted alcohol in the state of Texas.
Due to the covid pandemic, the Texas restaurant and bar industries were economically devastated in 2020. Texas, like other states, has attempted to find relief to help restaurants and bars financially. One relief proposal was to allow Texas restaurants (not bars) to sell "alcohol beverages-to-go" with food purchases. During the 2021 Texas legislature, Wine & Spirits wholesale of Texas worked with the Texas restaurant association to legalize "alcohol beverages-to-go" with food purchases. In addition, third parties were allowed as a delivery service to deliver "food purchases from restaurants with to-go alcohol beverages." During 2023, Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Texas actively monitored the "alcohol-to- go" legislation which was passed by the Texas legislature in 2021. It is critical for the Texas alcohol industry that this law is not abused or misused.
