Program areas at WIICT

In 2023, Wiict continuously conducted research to make multiple mrnas for its clinical collaborators at nih clinical cancer center in bethesda, md for evaluation and use in clinical research and in phase 1 or phase 1/2 human clinical trials. One of these mrnas encodes the active form of a protein that is inactive or lacking in one type of Immune Cell of patients having a certain primary Immune deficiency disease (pid) due to a mutation in a gene that is required to kill microbial or viral pathogens with which the patient can become infected (on average every 2-3 yrs). The trial is to test whether patients can be treated by tansfecting the mrna encoding the active mrna into defective Immune cells from the patients blood and then reintroducing those transfected cells into the patient. In 2023, Wiict also designed, made, and conducted research on multiple mrnas encoding gene or base-editing enzymes and evaluated each mrna with respect to yield, purity and multiple qc assay specifications for chemical, biochemical, and physical properties. These mrnas were sent to Wiict's collaborators at nih clinical cancer center for evaluation of their efficiencies of both on- target corrections of target gene mutations and off-target errors in human cells and animal models to generate data to support inds for phase 1 or phase 1/2 human clinical trials. Additionally, it is noted that 133,895 of services and use of materials, equipment or facilities was donated in-kind in connection with medical research.
