Description
Women for Afghan Women operates family guidance centers, women's protection centers, and transitional and halfway houses in 13 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces. These services provide pro bono counseling and mediation for Afghan families. WAW also provides safe places for women to stay, learn, and associate with others at their women's shelters. The program has been successful in providing family-oriented guidance at their family guidance centers in Afghanistan. Although located in Fresh Meadows, NY, WAW focuses on supporting women in Afghanistan.

Support Centers and Shelters - Humanitarian Assistance to Vulnerable Population and Programs forRefugee Returnees and Internally Displaced Individuals- Women for Afghan Women (WAW) provideshumanitarian assistance to thousands of vulnerable and in-need families across Afghanistanthrough its humanitarian assistance program. It also offers assistance with shelters and servicesfor thousands of refugee returnees and internally displaced individuals. WAW also houses hundredsof kids who would have otherwise been living with their mothers in prisons without any access toappropriate nutrition, health services, or education opportunities. WAW also provided support to UNHCR operations in Afghanistan through warehouse management and logistic and technical services across Afghanistan. WAWcontinued humanitarian work (food, non-food items distribution) and renovation and equipping the underserved girls schools.
Community Center and Advocacy - Two Community Centers located in the heart of the Afghan community in Queens, New York, and in Alexandria, Virginia, provide several pro bono programs and crisis services to Immigrants and refugee women, families, and children, including immigration and employment support, domestic violence counseling, mental health services, citizenship and language programs, and programs for senior citizens.
