Program areas at Women's Fund of Hawai'i
Women's Fund of Hawaii (wfh) provided over 260,000 in funding to innovative, grassroots programs for women and girls. All grant recipients are 501(c)(3) organizations in the state of Hawaii (or have a nonprofit entity as their fiscal sponsor). All programs were designed specifically for women and girls, often by small, women-led non-profits with mostly women volunteers.
In 2019, wfh launched a collaborative girls' leadership program called "girls talk back." In 2023, wfh and its partners held two sessions for the successful program, one in-person and one online allowing girls from other islands outside of oahu to participate. The program brings together the concepts of leadership, feminism, peace-building, mentorship, and action- planning. Girls talk back encourages and teaches girls to identify areas of concern in their communities, such as teen mental health, hunger, or racism, and build a plan to address it. This is accomplished with the advice of an adult woman mentor from the community, who meets with the girls once a week (or more, if they mutually desire it).
