Description
Women's Protective Services provides emergency shelter, counseling, and nurturing for victims of family violence. As a 501(c)(3) shelter program founded in 1978, it has grown to become the third largest residential shelter in the area. Their mission is to reduce and prevent family violence by providing emergency shelter to adult victims and their dependent children as residents of their facility while also nurturing self-sufficiency and independence through comprehensive advocacy programs.

Program areas at Women's Protective Services

Founded in 1978, Women's Protective Services of lubbock (wps) was established as a 501 (c)(3) shelter program for victims of domestic violence and has grown in strength and Services over the past 45 years to become the third largest residential shelter in the state of Texas. In 2022-2023, wps served a total 2,946 adult victims and their children of which 1,768 were unduplicated; wps hotline coordinator specialists answered 4,895 hotline calls; issued 191 Protective order requests; and provided 3,740 social Services referrals. 1,118 hours of individual therapy for clients was implemented along with 1,712 hours of group therapy, and 3,866 hours of legal advocacy rounded out attorney assistance programs. Wps is the only agency that provides crisis intervention, emergency shelter and support Services to battered adult victims and their children in a 10,500 square-mile region. The 12 west Texas counties within the wps service area include: bailey, cochran, crosby, dickens, garza, hockley, king, lamb, lubbock, lynn, terry, and yoakum.
