Event. Athletes are invited to attend a friendship festival, the opening ceremonies and parade of athletes, concerts and hall of fame. As a result of these efforts to promote camaraderie, we have discovered that while almost all of our athletes' first trip to the Games was prompted by competition, 44% of our participants list social aspects such as "meeting new friends- and "renewing acquaintances" as their primary reason for attending the Games. The average return rate of our participants is 75% the Games have become much more than a sporting event - they are truly a celebration of life after 50 to help attain the goal of fostering health, the World Senior Games provides a health screening program for our athletes. We offer free screenings for psa, blood pressure, blood sugar, body composition, resting heart rate, balance and equilibrium, hearing, cholesterol, visual acuity, glaucoma and carotid artery and more. Athletes are encouraged to take advantage of all these screenings while they are at the Games. Several indiduals have contacted us after the event to let us know that because of these screenings, they were made aware of a health condition that was minimized because of the early detection. In the interest of fostering World peace, the Games offers the World Senior volleyball global cup championships. This is a very prestigious and extremely competitive volleyball tournament to which we invite top volleyball teams from all parts of the World to represent their country. Teams from usa, canada, brazil, germany, poland, finland, venezuela, russia, estonia, latvia, and china have participated. While not on the courts, the team members are invited to take part in sightseeing tours, socials, banquets, concerts, etc. To help the players get to know each other and better understand each others' cultures. The tournament includes four days of pool play and is wrapped up with a very special final championship event where all participants of the Games are invited to attend and cheer their respective teams on to victory.
