Swine herd development & material procurement: the foundation engaged in animal husbandry and the procurement of genetically engineered swine donors in accordance with fda standards. The foundation intends for its research and progress in animal husbandry and animal organ-development to improve the compatibility between patients and organ-donors.
Clinical trial: the foundation continued to conduct the first in-human, clinical trials of live-cell, nonhuman organ transplants. The end-goal for this research is to develop and produce transplants and products to treat severe burns. The organization's president & ceo is largely responsible for running and managing the clinical trials, along with the assistance of volunteer and outside-contracted scientists.
Education: the foundation continued to advance public education and knowledge about xenotransplantation and its possible applications. Educational resources were provided through the foundation's website, meetings, conferences, and other similar mediums.
The funds were utilized directly to advance the science of xenotransplantation. Specifically, the funds were used to initiate and maintain the clinical trial of a live-cell organ xenotransplant (a skin transplant used to treat severe burns) and to conduct research and pre-clinical studies of other platform products in accordance with fda standards. The funds were also used to further refine and care for the genetically engineered swine herds that serve as donors for the xenotransplants, as well as to harvest, process, and store materials in accordance with fda standards. Lastly, funds were used to develop educational materials for videos, websites, and conferences to teach the public about the science of xenotransplantation and the numerous applications of it.
