Program areas at York County Food Bank
York County Food Bank (ycfb) is a central serving hub that collects Food and redistrubutes this Food. Food insecurity in York County is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach. Our various programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of families facing Food insecurity and ensure that everyone in York County has access to the Food they need to live healthy lives. Food distribution network: ycfb supplies quality Food to over 80 non-profit organizations throughout York County that provide Food directly to those in need. These "partner agencies" include Food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior & community centers, and schools/childcare centers. Drive-thru distributions: anyone in need is welcome to attend and each household receives enough Food to feed a family of four for a week. Mobile Food pantry: our mobile Food pantry makes stops and distributes free Food in communities across York County. Like our drive-thrudistributions, anyone in need is welcome to attend our mobile Food pantry distributions. Senior box program: the senior box program is a federal initiative designed to improve the health and nutrition of income eligible seniors. Seniors receive a box of free Food each month, which helps stretch their limited income. My online Food pantry: our newest, most exciting program is my online Food pantry. This program seeks to provide access to our struggling neighbors by allowing them to order free groceries online any time, any day, and conveniently choose the items that fit their dietary and cultural preferences. The Food items are then packaged in our warehouse and delivered to select pick-up locations. Food rescue program: every year, 30-40% of Food the us Food supply is wasted and ends up in landfills. York County Food Bank is combatting Food waste and Food insecurity through our Food rescue program by rescuing unused Food from restaurants & supermarkets and distributing it to those in need and throughout our Food distribution network. December give-a-meal: the give-a-meal program is a collaboration between the York County Food Bank and York County schools to provide holiday meals for families in need. Students and families from each of the participating York County schools host a virtual Food drive to support give-a-meal and often volunteer to package the meals. Virtual Food drives and meal packing take place in november and early december and packaged meals are distributed to families in late december.
