Program areas at Young Gifted and Green
PROGRAM NAME: Youth EJ Programs DESCRIPTION: The Youth EJ (Environmental Justice) Program is a powerful leadership initiative that centers the voices of Black and Latinx Gen Z leaders in Flint and the surrounding Genesee County area. A cohort of 3-5 empowered youth from across Flint and Genesee will serve a full year term. YGG will assist the youth council members on becoming environmental activists and help them build platforms to speak on EJ issues (political advocacy and community organizing) at a local, state, and national level. The Council will also be a representative of YGG when youth opportunities arise. There will be opportunities for in-person convenings like the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference and the annual Flint Weekend of Service.
PROGRAM NAME: Young, Gifted & Green Community Action Summit DESCRIPTION: Young, Gifted & Green 40 Under 40 is an annual list of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous environmental justice leaders under the age of 40 from across the U.S. who are grappling with complex solutions to solve the Climate Crisis and dismantle Environmental Racism. Our past nominees have included educators, scientists, artists, policymakers, healthcare/public health professionals, faith-based leaders, mental health professionals, birthworkers, farmers, social-justice advocates/activists, storytellers, journalists, entrepreneurs, technologists, chefs, clean-energy gurus, social media influencers, and more.
PROGRAM NAME: The Green Agenda (formerly Green Table Talk) DESCRIPTION: The Green Agenda is a monthly, intergenerational discussion recorded live in Washington, DC, and streamed via Facebook Live, breaking down topics of environmental racism from the Black & Latinx perspective. This recurring virtual production is in partnership with the Climate Action Campaign and the Environmental Defense Fund.
