Program areas at Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA
Youth Development - The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA believes in nurturing the potential of every child and teen through value based programs and services that help develop the skills needed for academic proficiency, improved health, and lifelong abilities for successful living. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, and we provide financial assistance to make that a possibility. Whether in preschool, child care or a youth sports program, the Y provides a safe environment to nurture social-emotional, cognitive and physical development. The Y's holistic programs and experiences help our youth to develop positive behaviors and values, support self-esteem, and cultivate better health and educational success.
Social Responsibility - The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. We have been listening and responding to the community's most critical social needs for the last six decades, by developing skills through education and training, addressing emotional well-being, preventing chronic disease and building a healthier community. Through collaborations with local partners, we provide support to those in need. We activate resources and engage people from diverse populations for individual and collective action to develop solutions to the key issues facing our community, collaborate with policymakers to strengthen and support the well-being of our community, and encourage investment in our community. Our doors are open to all members of our community, and we provide financial assistance to ensure that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. We are dedicated to addressing the needs of our community as a charitable community service organization and provided over $246,490 in financial assistance to our community in 2021.
Healthy Living - The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is a leading voice within our community, committed to improving the health and well-being of those we serve, with a mission centered on balance and developing connection with individuals and families. As a result, over 9,300 people in our community are receiving the support, guidance and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. We provide resources to children, adults and families by developing small communities of support within various areas of our Y. Our health enhancement programs are designed to help people develop new skills through active lifestyle, proper nutrition, stress management and health education aimed at empowering individuals to choose healthier options. This is especially important as our nation struggles with chronic disease and obesity challenges, families wrestle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Our programming supports mental heath, cancer survivors, individuals with pre-diabetes as well as diabetes, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and we continue to develop programming to meet the changing needs within our community. We are dedicated to expanding the Y's Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards and strategies into all areas of our Y Community. We are committed to serving the under-served and developing partnerships to help support those needs. Our programs are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels.
