Teachers use research-based curricula that nurture the whole child, responding to individual need, encouraging creative and independent thinking, and helping each child develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.
Economic advancement programsthe ywca economic advancement programs equips individuals with the tools and resources they need to navigate pathways toward self-sufficiency, stability, and increased well-being.the yw economic advancement programs create a single point of entry and comprehensive assessment so financially struggling individuals can access essential community resources and public benefits, avoid barriers, and find resolve. More than a referral line, the yw economic advancement programs establishes a long-term relationship - in an unbiased, supportive space - with appropriate follow-ups. Our personal approach assures that individuals at critical crossroads - just starting out, newly divorced, or recovering from abuse - get the jump-start they need to manage their economic situation.through the economic advancement programs, the ywca:-offers homeless and low-income individuals and families safe, affordable places to live, as well as supportive services that help them move toward self-sufficiency and permanent housing.-links financially vulnerable families to benefits through the benefit bank, a web-based service that centralizes the process of applying for many state and federal benefits.-connects families with human services, employment training, legal assistance, and licensed child care.-teaches individuals about financial management and the importance of saving.-empowers individuals to take control of their health by promoting community-based education, eliminating barriers to quality healthcare access.-stands alongside women in crisis to resolve problems, identify resources, and achieve stability.through its housing programs, the ywca Greater Pittsburgh provides homeless and low-income women and families with safe, affordable places to live and the supportive services that will help them move toward self-sufficiency and more permanent housing. The bridge housing and rapid rehousing programs are transitional programs, respectively, that together serve adult women and families. Both programs serve homeless women; our scattered sites - apartments and homes around allegheny county - allow women to live independently while working or finding employment, attending school, taking care of their families, developing life skills, participating in mental health and/or drug and alcohol treatment, or pursuing whatever other goals they have chosen for themselves. Additionally, through a partnership with the urban redevelopment authority, the ywca has began a new program to provide grants to individuals struggling financially to cover rental payments to prevent eviction.

The center serves as the Association's leader for advocacy and research efforts and develops and maintains the following: the Association's systemic social change initiatives;updates and changes about issues related to race and gender equity;advocacy for the fair and equal treatment of all people; writtenposition statements that advance the mission of the association;internal and external partnerships and collaborations; comprehensiveresource information and access to this data on the association'swebsite; this year organizations, educational institutions,corporationsand government agencies have joined us as community partners to supportour efforts in eliminating racism and empowering women; the center forrace & gender equity conducted diversty, inclusion and justicepresentations and workshops.
Education opportunityywca Greater Pittsburgh youth services and stem education excites students interest in stem through hands-on, collaborative, and project based on learning that aligns with Pennsylvania academic standards and supplements their school experience. Our out-of-school time programs provide safe, structured programs for youth while parents work. We engage studnets in fun, nontraditional exploration and learning about stem field, and encourage each student to shine in their own unique way. Community volunteers enhance our curriculum focus on stem, college and career awareness, and life skills. We partner with over 44 agencies. To provide stem curriculum, materials and professional development training to out-of-school time providers so they can successfully integrate stem education into their programs.
