Description
Youth Emergency Services empowers at-risk and homeless youth by providing critically needed resources. They offer shelter, food, advocacy, and education to help young people become self-sufficient. Collaboration is key for YES in addressing the needs of these vulnerable youth. The emergency shelter provides a safety net for those in crisis, serving up to 19 youths with stays up to 21 days depending on need. Their street outreach program sends workers with backpacks filled with basic needs and emergency supplies into areas where homeless and at-risk youths congregate. Located in Omaha, NE.

Program areas at Youth Emergency Services

Through the street outreach program, yes outreach workers assist Youth in the community who are experiencing homelessness by meeting them where they are, building relationships, and assisting Youth in meeting their basic needs by helping them access needed Services. Yes outreach workers take backpacks filled with basic need items and Emergency supplies and patrol areas where homeless and at-risk Youth tend to congregate. Outreach workers are trained to identify a young person in need and to provide immediate information and Services. Yes serves the most Youth through the street outreach program servicing 447 unduplicated Youth and young adults this year. Yes reaches Youth through our continuum of care, social media, word or mouth, community referrals, and physical street outreach. Yes provided housing prevention Services to 97 Youth through the outreach center providing rental and utility assistance.
Maternity group home provides Services to runaway and homeless Youth ages 16 to 21 who are pregnant or parenting and may not otherwise be able to access safe and stable housing. Residents live in a family-style residence for a maximum of 18 months and work closely with case managers to set and accomplish personal goals which help pave the road to self-sufficiency. The young mothers take parenting classes to learn how to take care of their children. They are expected to be in school or have a job or both. The residents participate in community service opportunities, groups, and community connections with partner agencies to further their self-sufficiency. 14 pregnant and/or parenting mothers were served in this program. 80% of them exited to safe temporary or permanent housing destinations.
Transitional living program (tlp) provides long-term Services to runaway and homeless Youth, ages 16 to 21. Tlp residents live in apartment-style homes for a maximum of 18 months and work with case managers to set and accomplish personal goals which help pave the road to self-sufficiency. Tlp residents are required to have a job or attend school yes believes that by encouraging Youth to take responsibility and make connections in the community, they will learn the skills necessary to become self-sufficient. The residents participate in community service opportunities, groups, and community connections with partner agencies to further their self-sufficiency. 27 Youth were served through this program.
The Emergency shelter provides low-barrier; temporary shelter for Youth in crisis; available to Youth ages 16-21. Youth in need of shelter may stay up to 30 days at a time. Yes served 28 Youth in the shelter program. Youth can access other Services such as food, clothing, and access to mental health therapy. Youth in the Emergency shelter work with case managers to develop goals on their exit to transitional or permanent housing.
