Youth Life Foundation of Tennessee

Youth Life Foundation of Tennessee, Inc. (ylf) provides comprehensive after-school and summer programs for disadvantaged and underprivileged children living in insecure environments through academic, technical, moral training. Children come to ylf from 3pm-6:30pm, monday through friday throughout the school year, and participate in an enhanced program during the summer months. The students are engaged in two main programs designed to build developmental assets and improve academic performance. Daily, students are encouraged to build strong character and gain a sense of personal achievement through an incentive-based behavioral program. From enrollment, each child's strengths and needs are identified and assessed, and a comprehensive plan is developed to address his or her particular challenges. Daily, students are provided with homework assistance, targeted skill building exercises, and opportunities to read, write and practice math. Students enroll in the program between kindergarten and grade 4, and many remain enrolled throughout middle school. Students are involved with ylf's after-school program 4-5 days a week, with parental approval.
