Program areas at YouthPlaces

Yp's high-quality after school programs engage young people from within their community and are responsive to input and feedback from youth leaders and the communities in which they live. Having completed a new strategic plan in 2015 entitled, "pathways to success", Youthplaces has recommitted its collective resources and energy to walking alongside pittsburgh's marginalized youth, guiding them along pathways that promote individual and community success. During the school year and summer Youthplaces provides several programs for in school youth between the ages of 12-18 (grades 6-12) which include yp stars academic enrichment and tutoring, yp fit health and wellness, yp access college and career planning, yp 1st jobs workforce development, and yp leadership mentoring. Throughout the year these programs serve approximately 1300 students across the city of pittsburgh and allegheny county.
Knowing that chronic unemployment and intergenerational poverty are significant barriers that lead young people/adults to engage in high risk negative behaviors within our communities, yp wanted to begin providing workforce development programs year round. The out of school youth programs engage youth and young adults between the ages of 16-24 who have obtained a ged or high school diploma in workforce development training programs in multiple skill trade areas of contruction, building maintenance and management, customer service and culinary.
