CCPA and Cause IQ

Last updated 1/24/2020

The California Consumer Privacy Act of 2019 ("CCPA") provides important protections to consumers to safeguard their privacy. This page contains information on how you can exercise your rights under CCPA with Cause IQ. We do not treat you differently or discriminate against you for exercising your rights under CCPA.

Please also check out our privacy policy.

Do not sell my personal information!

We hear you loud and clear. If you are a California resident, we can tell you about what personal information we collect and sell on you. We can also remove your personal information from our Nonprofit Database, and stop collecting (i.e., "opt-out") personal information on you in the next 12 months.

A quick note first on what is "personal information", because CCPA has a specific definition of it. For the Cause IQ Nonprofit Database, personal information comes from two sources:

  1. Our research team (i.e., humans) conducting first-hand manual research on your organization via web searches; and
  2. Our search technology (i.e., computers) that scans the internet to gather publicly facing information on your organization

If you are a nonprofit director, executive, or board member, there's a good chance we have information on you from publicly available government disclosure documents, such as the Form 990. This information is not personal information under CCPA, because Cause IQ is lawfully using the information as the government intended — providing information about nonprofit organizations to the public. So we are not going to remove information about you that comes from publicly available government sources, because the public has a right to that information.

Also, if you provide your information to us to sign up for a newsletter or create a user account, CCPA treats this as personal information for business purposes. While we do not include this information in our Nonprofit Database, you can still request CCPA-related disclosures, opt-outs, and deletions.

To make a CCPA-related request to Cause IQ, we first need to verify you are who you say you are (it's a requirement in CCPA). Send an email to [email protected] from your nonprofit email address with your name and the EIN of the nonprofit organization you are associated with. We will cross-reference the provided information with our Nonprofit Database to determine if you are in it.

We only use the information you provide in this request to comply with the request.

After verification and authentication, we can disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected and/or sold pursuant to CCPA. We can also delete any personal information on you, and you can opt-out of further collection of personal information for the next 12 months. These requests are free, and we complete requests within 45 days.
