Program areas at Braided River
Living River: expenses for this program went to support photographic fieldwork, commissioning writing, editorial services, layout, and printing for the book living River: the promise of the mighty Colorado, to educate about the biodiversity of the Colorado River watershed and encourage increased public participation in protection efforts. The book went to print in december 2022, and was published in april 2023, after significant investment in 2022 fiscal year. 4000 copies of the book were printed for sales and distribution, and the multimedia storytelling has reached more than 1000 people at in-person events, and media from the campaign has generated approximately 500,000 impressions.
Columbia River. Expenses for this program went towards fieldwork, writer fees, and editorial support for a book titled big River: resilience and renewal in the columbia basin which will be published in the spine got 2024. The book is expected to be a print run of 2000 - 4000 books.
America's arctic. Expenses for this program have helped support a giant screen "imax" film called the arctic: our last great wilderness, a pbs documentary called american arctic which came out april 2022 and a supporting impact campaign which has included live events, a traveling exhibit, and digital platform building all to educate about the arctic of Alaska. The imax film has opened in 16 theaters to date, across 12 states, and three countries-with three copies of an accompanying museum exhibit to educate about the human and wildlife communities of the remote region traveling the region. While we do not have reach numbers for all theaters, we know that at one average-sized theater, it was played 400 times over 5 months-viewed by 8,500 people.
Other program services. In 2022 Braided River developed and toured four different traveling exhibits across the country based on our books about the interconnected value of critical ecosystems and what can be done to protect them. The four exhibitsorca: shared water, shared home, we are puget sound, the salmon way , and the arctic were viewed by more than 670,000 people cumulatively.
