Program areas at East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring
Academic:epatt's academic component is multifaceted and customized for each student. We work with teachers to devise personalized learning plans with frequent checkpoints to track student progress. The California college and career readiness anchor standards serve as a framework for our curriculum.our program includes zoom-based one-on-one and group Tutoring, matching volunteers and epatt staff with k-12 students who requested additional academic support. Over 60 volunteer tutors and more than 150 students participated in our academic programs during the year.the organization received a total of $139,353 of in-kind donation for use of facilities from the sobrato foundation during the fiscal year.
Enrichment/parent:the strongest predictor of student success is parental involvement in their child's education. We host regular workshops where we coach parents on how to support their child's academic journey and how to be informed, engaged, advocate for their child.our enrichment activities expose students to experiences that might otherwise be difficult for them to access. These include tours to museums, aquariums, and zoos, as well as overnight rafting trips and hikes.
Tennis:tennis, and the life skills it teaches, serves an important role in epatt's youth development model. Our Tennis component is taught by coaches who learned the game when they were epatt students and are now giving back to the community and coaching the next generation of players.there is a signifcant overlap between participants in Tennis and academics. In addition, our coaches served as teachers for students participating in p.e. Tennis at cesar chavez ravenswood middle school.
