Program areas at St Paul Urban Tennis Program

Tennis programs and (education) camps:more than 1,700 kids ages 5-18 connect with sput through our 6-week spring, summer and fall Tennis lesson programs each year. Sput spirit life skills are discussed with kids at each lesson session (service, perseverance, integrity, responsibility, imagination, teamwork). In addition, 100+ youth ages 8-12 combat the summer slide in academic creative engagement (ace) camps (Tennis, reading, creative writing, math) and partnership camps (i.e., bakken museum, middle school girls Tennis and leadership camp). Outreach programs: sput introduces Tennis to 500+ kids in underserved communities by bringing equipment and portable nets to school gyms, parks, parking lots, community organizations, rec centers, and more.
Employment: sput hires and trains 80+ high school and college-age coaches each year to lead our youth Tennis and outreach programs and ace camps. Ten or more high school youth are also hired for employment plus, which combines paid jobs (coaching, Program and office assistants) with "plus" time for career research, college and workplace visits, and meetings with a career mentor.
Warrior leadership academy:sput's motto is "launching leaders." Our 70+ warrior leadership academy high school youth, most youth of color from low-income households, have the opportunity to improve their skills with weekend indoor Tennis, october- march. In order to participate on court, they dedicate off-court time to focus on valuable topics and skills for the future (i.e. Financial literacy, career exploration).
