Program areas at Helping Hands Hawaii
Community clearinghouse - serves as a clearinghouse for the receipt and distribution of material goods (clothing, household items, furniture, major appliances, school supplies, and food) to agencies that have clients in need. Approximately 3,983 persons served, 35,944 household items were distributed, and 1,900 individuals were assisted during our community outreach efforts. Emergency assistance - provides limited financial assistance to clients who are experiencing one-time, short-term or long-term emergencies or hardships. Assistance includes rent or utility payments. Clients are referred by partner agencies including, government, social services, community organizations and other non-profit organizations and churches.
Representative payee - provides money management services to consumers receiving government entitlements.
Bilingual access line - provides on-call interpreter services in health, social services, education and legal situations. Such services are provided 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Approximately 4,137 appointments fulfilled.
Ready to learn - a statewide initiative that provides needy students from kindergarten through high school with new pencils, pens, notebooks and other classroom supplies with an intended outcome of school readiness.
