Program areas at Migration Policy Institute

Mpi's u.s. immigration Policy program analyzes u.s. policies and their impacts, as well as the complex demographic, economic, political, foreign Policy, and other forces that shape immigration to the united states. The program also offers influential thought leadership andpolicy recommendations regarding ways to improve the u.s. immigration system. Mpi's national center on immigrant integration Policy is a crossroads for elected officials, grassroots and nonprofit leaders, educators, journalists, researchers, local service providers, state and local agency managers, and others who seek to understand and respond to the challenges and opportunities today's high rates of immigration create in local communities. Key services the center provides include policy-focused research, Policy design, leadership development, technical assistance and training for government officials and community leaders, and an electronic resource center on immigrant integration issues with a special focus on state and local policies and data. Mpi's international program acts as a Policy laboratory for developing innovative, evidence-based, and politically feasible solutions to worldwide Migration Policy challenges. From advising countries holding the rotating eu presidency on Migration and immigrant integration matters to crafting Policy memos for national governments rethinking their border or citizenship policies, mpi's international program strives to inform ongoing Policy debates in north and central america, europe, and asia as well as at the global level. Working from offices in Washington, new york, brussels, and a presence in the united kingdom, the international program combines mpi's hallmark datadriven analysis with acute political savvy to deliver evidence-based recommendations on all aspects of immigration and integration Policy. Building on its strong legacy of Policy work in canada and mexico as well as europe (dating back to mpi's inception in 2001, and formalized with the incorporation of mpi europe in 2011), the international program's research and analysis have expanded to include centralamerica and asia. Our work products fall into three principal categories: research and analysis, Policy dialogue, and direct consultations with governments and government institutions.
