Program areas at NYIC
Immigrant services support and community engagement:the nyic immigrant services support team develops and implements unique, community-based initiatives and campaigns to engage, empower, and holistically integrate immigrant communities in New york.during fiscal year 2022, the nyic:- trained over 1,300 service providers from over 300 organizations serving immigrant communities across New York state.- launched a series of "key to the city block parties" in each borough of nyc, bringing our wrap-around service model out of schools and into neighborhoods and parks, where we could serve hundreds of people while keeping community members and partner organizations safe. We held five events in key neighborhoods and brought legal services, free meals, public benefits and health resources, social services, and more to each program.- the ukrainian response initiative, launched by nyc mayor's office of immigrant affairs and spearheaded by the nyic, ensures that ukrainian war survivors have access to language-appropriate resources and services. Since the beginning of active programming in june 2022, together with our partners, we have reached and provided support to 2,887 New arrivals. Despite extremely dynamic and precarious circumstances, we have built systems and alliances with stakeholders across the five boroughs and beyond, allowing for effective and streamlined coordination of capacities, resources, and programming efforts.
Supporting and working with nyic member organizations:the nyic is a diverse Coalition of over 200 non-profit organizations throughout New York state. The members are grassroots community organizations, not-for-profit human service providers, religious and academic institutions, workers centers and labor unions, and business and civic partners that are committed to advancing the nyic's mission to achieve a more just society that values immigrants' contributions and extends opportunities to all.during fiscal year 2022:- our member organizations served nearly one million New yorkers.- the nyic strengthened the immigrant rights community through $1.5 million in regrants to 52 member organizations, covering everything from campaign organizing to food insecurity to korean small business outreach.- through its fy22 nyic vista program, the nyic placed 27 americorps vistas into full-time, year-long service, helping host sites raise over $6 million.- the nyic supported our member organizations through regrants, training, technical assistance, leadership development support, and shared best practices.
Policy and programs:the New York Immigration Coalition (nyic) achieved meaningful change for our communities in fy2022, resulting in tremendous positive impact on the quality of life of immigrants New yorkers:- together, the nyic and united neighborhood houses worked in partnership with over 50 organizations to engage in public education around municipal voting rights for New York city residents with lawful presence and the importance of giving them a voice in who represents them and their communities.- in april 2022, we worked with longstanding partners within the coverage4all Coalition to successfully expand medicaid coverage to all seniors 65 years and older, as well as eligible women, regardless of Immigration status, for up to 12 months post-pregnancy.- we supported increasing legal services funding by raising awareness throughout the state about the importance of providing immigrants facing deportation proceedings with critical legal aid and ensuring the chance at fair representation so families can remain together.
